Soil Conservation

Soil is essential to the global carbon cycle. Crops need soil to grow, and farm animals need vegetation for feed.

Soil also helps to create a cleaner climate, absorbing about a third of the carbon dioxide that fossil fuels and industrial operations emit. If soil becomes unhealthy, unstable, or polluted, the life cycle stops.
Land overuse and indiscriminate use of harmful pesticides have contaminated our soil, outpacing the natural regrowth of vegetation, subjecting soil to increased exposure to erosion, and loss of arability.
In Assam, Soil Erosion is a major problem. It is reported that more than more than 4.27 lakh hectares of land has been already eroded away by the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries since 1950, which is 7.4% of the total area of the State. As assessed, the annual average loss of land is nearly 8000 Hectares.

At OREKA, we’re on a mission to lend a hand to save our land.
