Ethics and compliance

OREKA’s Code of Ethics is an independent declaration, demonstrating our commitment to maintain highest standards of conduct and behaviour in all our endeavors.

The Code does not cover every issue that may arise, but sets out basic principles to guide the Team and Trustees of OREKA.
Compliance with this Code of Conduct is expected to foster and sustain a culture where honest and ethical conduct is recognized, valued, exemplified and inspire emulation by others.
In order to remain contemporary and contextual to the changes in law and regulations, the Code is dynamic. However, it remains unaltered at its core.

Code

HUMANNESS We will act with empathy, kindness and respect towards each other and any individual or community it comes in contact.

INTEGRITY We will act with honesty, integrity and openness in working toward the Trust’s mission.

TEAMWORK We will help each other to succeed and take pride in our collective accomplishments.

OWNERSHIP & ACCOUNTABILITY We will take ownership in our intervention areas, not based on the thought of owning or disowning a responsibility, but based on the belief that taking action is not merely someone else’s responsibility. For us taking ownership is about taking the initiative, accountability is about follow-through. We will be accountable for the quality and timeliness of an outcome, even when we’re working with others. If we can’t deliver on time, or the results are not as strong as hoped, we will be honest and proactive with your communication.

EXCELLENCE We will patiently listen to and understand the needs and challenges of our target groups and deliver significant impact through innovation, continuous improvement and dedication. For us, excellence is not only a value; it is a discipline and a means for making the world a better place.

Why is the Code important?

The Code outlines what we expect from everyone, in terms of our behaviour and actions. By committing to the Code you are supporting our purpose and our values

What does it mean for you?

By following the Code, you will be supporting our conduct and compliance culture.
As part of our commitment to good conduct, you are responsible for disclosing, potential conflicts and regulatory restrictions which may have an effect, whether real or perceived, on your association with us.

Who must follow the Code?

Everyone engaging with OREKA is bound by the Code, whether a trustee, a full time team member, an advisor, a contractor, a subcontractor, a temporary employee or a voluntary worker, working in any organization and in any capacity.

Failure to follow the Code

When questions arise around a failure to work within the boundaries of the Code, rest assured that any investigations or decisions on disciplinary matters are governed by our strong principles on fair accountability. We will treat failure to follow the Code very seriously and it may lead to disciplinary action which could result in disassociation with the individual or institution. This process may involve other authorities if the concerned has broken any law or regulations, including the police, if any criminal offence has been committed.
